CHUCK D
Leader and co-founder of legendary group Public Enemy, member of its auxiliary unit Enemy Radio and part of the supergroup Prophets of Rage, Chuck D is a social activist, author and digital music pioneer. He first rose to acclaim in the 1980’s with a string of critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums that addressed weighty issues about race, rage and inequality with a jolting combination of intelligence and eloquence never seen before.
The New York Times has named Public Enemy’s music to their list of the “25 Most Significant Albums of the Last Century” and in 2005 The Library of Congress included Fear of a Black Planetin a list of 50 recordings worthy of preserving that year in their National Recording Registry. In 2013, Public Enemy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2015, Public Enemy’s “Say It Like It Really Is” provided the powerful backbeat to the trailer for the critically-acclaimed film, Selma, and “Harder Than You Think” was selected for NBC’s official Super Bowl XLIX commercial after being the cornerstone of the 2012 Paralympics campaign (which drove the song into the UK Top 5). When the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC began curating its archive, the group was asked to donate iconic items from their history. And in 2020, Public Enemy received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the GRAMMYs.
Chuck D is also a visual artist whose work has been shown in galleries nationwide, a best-selling author (including 2017’s 300-page “This Day In Rap and Hip Hop History”), a highly-sought after speaker on the college lecture circuit, has been a prominent member of music industry non-profit organizations MusicCares and Rock The Vote (which honored him with the Patrick Lippert Award in 1996 for his contributions to community service), runs his own record label, SpitSlam, and launched the websites Rapstation.com, HipHopGods.com and SheMovement.com. He has served as national spokesperson for Rock The Vote, the National Urban League and the National Alliance of African American Athletes. In 2018, Chuck was named the Chairman of the Celebrity Board for the forthcoming Universal Hip Hop Museum in New York.
In June 2016, Chuck debuted Prophets of Rage, a new “supergroup” with former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and DJ Lord of Public Enemy.
In 2019, he formed Enemy Radio, touring throughout Europe with Wu-Tang and De La Soul.
DJ LORD
DJ LORD is a key member of Enemy Radio, Public Enemy and was in the supergroup Prophets of Rage (featuring members of Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill). The legendary turntablist and multi-genre DJ uses a unique combination of precision cuts, lots of bass and unexpected mixes that keeps crowds rocking worldwide.
While growing up in Savannah, GA, LORD was exposed to the 80’s Philly DJ scene by a cousin and set his sights on learning the craft. Heavily influenced by industry pioneers he quickly learned key scratches and started incorporating them into his sets. His own style rapidly developed.
By 1999, LORD’s expertise as a battle DjJas well as an all-aound performer was noticed by Professor Griff of Public Enemy, who was looking for a new DJ due to Terminator X’s retirement. A month after meeting, LORD was on Public Enemy’s 40th World Tour. Since joining as a permanent member, he has been an integral part of the group from production to touring. The rest is history.
As a DJ, LORD has done it all. He has performed at everything from world class events like the Grammy Awards to festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. He has played in the top clubs in the USA, Asia, Australia and Europe and has numerous battle titles including being named a U.S. Finalist in I.T.F. and DMC. Called the Bruce Lee of turntables, LORD is one of the most versatile DJs in the game.
While DJ battles and Hip Hop are the foundation of his career, LORD is widely recognized for his high-energy shows that seamlessly fuse turntablism with impeccable multi-genre musical selections that leave crowds screaming for more.
Having mastered the art of DJing, LORD is currently pursuing his second love, producing. He has produced tracks for Public Enemy and with Dubstep groups TrillBass and HULK.
MC JAHI
A Hip Hop preserver, lecturer and educator, Jahi has also released multiple albums as a Spitslam Recording artist under the moniker PE 2.0. Jahi travels the world curating experiences in museums on the life-affirming aspects of Hip Hop culture and has spoken at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, the Chabot Space and Science Museum in Oakland, the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle, San Jose State University in association with the California Music Education Association and more. In addition, Jahi has been an Artist in Practice at Holy Names University, where he taught a course on Hip Hop culture, with Rakim's “Sweat the Technique” and Chuck D's “This Day in Rap and Hip Hop History” as required reading.
OkayPlayer calls Jahi a “talented and passionate MC…a true artist…and stays true to the essence of hip-hop while daring to embrace its sonic and conceptual diversity” while Hip-Hop.com praises him for “infusing new energy into a powerful legacy.”
Jahi has released 16 albums independent albums, one on EMI Denmark, has shared the same stage with KRS-One, Yasiin Bey, Blackalicious and Arrested Development, to name a few. Jahi has recorded five albums under the moniker PE. 20, with the most recent being “The Catalog.” Jahi is currently working on two new books, “The Microphone Journeyman” and “The Intersection,” both which share his experiences in Hip Hop and museums, and is producing a one-man play on Marcus Garvey for 2021.
